ST005 – VARDI – QUERO VER EP

For the 5th EP on Samedia Trax, Glasgow based producer VARDI drops 3 heavy soundsystem ready Latin bass cuts recording during a recent trip to Mexico.

Title track Quero Ver (“I want to see”) is a deep melancholic cut featuring the vocals of Pahua, one half of famed duo Sotomayor, recorded at her home studio in Mexico City. Her bittersweet vocals ride over a fresh bass-heavy amapiano-inspired rhythm with beguiling and totally original results.

Tracks 2 and 3 feature MC El Kilo whom VARDI met in a hostel in Guadalajara, Mexico’s second largest city. This is the first time his voice has been heard outside of Mexico. Guadalajara Cumbia take the traditional cumbia groove and marries it with a tough dancehall flavour for ready for El Kilo’s raw vocals. Connecta continues in this vein to give us two bona fide club ready bangers.

VARDI is a half Chilean, half Scottish DJ Producer based in Glasgow. His sound is a blend of Latin club, Afro, Global bass & Dancehall. His productions seek to push the boundaries of genres and make connections between cultures. In 2022/23 he’s focussed on working with leading Salsa musicians, Scottish and South American based vocalists to create some exciting new combinations. VARDI’s other alias is Zazim which focusses on the integration of Scottish traditional and dance music. He’s been busy in Glasgow for a number of years throwing club nights, free parties and sharing music on his homebuilt soundsystem.
